Massachusetts Insurance CE
Producers: 60 CE hours* of CE instruction is required during the first 36-month period following the date of initial licensure. After the initial term, producers are required to complete 45 CE hours every subsequent 36-month compliance period. *New* insurance producers must now complete a program of instruction or attend a seminar on ethics equivalent to 3 ethics hours of instruction.
Public Insurance Adjusters: 15 CE hours are required every 3-year CE compliance period.

Annuities | Producers and brokers must complete an annuity course approved by the Division of Insurance of at least four hours in length and meet carrier producer training requirements.Completing a course in another state with similar requirements will satisfy the Massachusetts requirement. |
Flood | All Massachusetts property and casualty producers who sell federal flood insurance policies must complete a one-time, 3-hour course approved for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) training. |
Long Term Care |
After completing the initial 8-hour LTC training requirement, producers must complete a 4-hour follow-up training course every 24-months following the initial training. |
If the nonresident licensee's home state does not have a CE requirement, the nonresident licensee must then comply with Massachusetts CE requirements.
No. Self-study final exams for Massachusetts Insurance CE do not require a monitor.
The license renewal date is every 3 years based upon the licensee’s date of birth (see license renewal process below).
The CE compliance period is every 3 years based upon the license issuance date. Required CE must be completed before the end of your individual CE compliance period.
Note: The compliance date is rarely the license renewal date (and may be as much as eleven months after the license renewal date) since it is based on the original date of licensure.
A course may not be taken for credit more than once within 3-years from the original completion date.
Producers
A maximum of 45 excess CE hours may be carried forward to the next 3-year license term.
Public Insurance Adjusters
A maximum of 15 excess CE hours may be carried forward to the next 3-year license term.
Licensees are exempt from CE requirements if one of following is true:
- The licensee holds a viatical brokers/representative license.
- The licensee holds a reinsurance intermediary brokers/managers license.
- The licensee holds a surplus lines brokers license.
- The licensee holds an advisors license.
- The licensee is a nonresident licensee in a state with reciprocity with Massachusetts.
- The licensee is on active military duty.
- The licensee has been continuously licensed since April 4, 1983, and has not become licensed for a new line of authority since the original license issuance.
- The licensee holds an auto club agents license.
- The licensee holds one of the following limited lines authorities: travel, accident & baggage insurance, or credit insurance.

Most students will have their credits processed the same day on which they complete their final exam. If a course is completed outside of our normal business hours, these credits will be processed on the morning of the next business day. Once your credits have been successfully filed, you will receive a notification email that also contains your Certificate of Completion.
Self-study final exams are closed book. Licensees may not refer to the course material while the exam is in progress.
The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. Students have unlimited attempts to pass the exam.
A roster fee of $1.50 per credit is required to process course credits in this state. This fee will be added to your order total during checkout and is then sent by us to the state upon completion.
No. You may spend as much time with the course material as you feel necessary, and you may come and go from that material as often as you like. There is no time limit on our exams, however all exams must be completed within one sitting. Once started, if an exam is abandoned for any reason you will need to begin that exam from the beginning when you next return.
Do take special note that every course has an expiration date, which is based on both the state approval and your website purchase date. In order to receive credit you must complete the course before that expiration date.
