Most students will have their credits processed the same day on which we receive their signed affidavit, issued upon completion of their final exam. If an affidavit is received outside of our normal business hours, these credits will be processed on the morning of the next business day. Once your credits have been successfully filed, you will receive a notification email that also contains your Certificate of Completion.

South Carolina insurance continuing education requires an impartial third-party proctor be present during your final exam. The proctor must be at least 18 years of age and cannot be a friend, relative or co-worker of the licensee, nor anyone with a financial interest in the exam result.

Self-study final exams are closed book. Licensees may not refer to the course material while the exam is in progress.

The final exam must be passed with a score of 70 percent or higher to receive credit. Students have unlimited attempts to pass the exam.

A roster fee of $1.00 per credit is required to process course credits in this state. This fee will be added to your order total during checkout and is then sent by us to the state upon completion.

No. You may spend as much time with the course material as you feel necessary, and you may come and go from that material as often as you like. There is no time limit on our exams, however all exams must be completed within one sitting. Once started, if an exam is abandoned for any reason you will need to begin that exam from the beginning when you next return.

Do take special note that every course has an expiration date, which is based on both the state approval and your website purchase date. In order to receive credit you must complete the course before that expiration date.

Producers: 24 hours, including 3 hours of ethics, every 2-year license term.

Multi-Line Producers: Producers with both a property and casualty and life, accident and health license must complete 24 hours of CE credits. A minimum of 8 credit hours must be completed in each line of authority and a minimum of 3 credit hours of Ethics.

Producers with Reduced Compliance Requirements: Producers with reduced compliance requirements (15 hours) must complete 12 hours in the line of authority held and 3 hours of Ethics. Multi-line producers with reduced compliance requirements (15
hours) must complete 6 hours in each line of authority and 3 hours of ethics. Failure to comply by the last day of the producer’s birth month will result in the license being expired. The law allowing reduced CE compliance was repealed January 1, 2010. This Section applies only to those producers who were granted a reduced CE compliance prior to January 1, 2010.

Nonresident producers who meet the CE requirements of their home states do not have to comply with South Carolina CE requirements.  Nonresident producers who have not completed a Long-Term Care Partnership training course in their home state or another state with a Long-Term Care Partnership training requirement are required to take the South Carolina Long-Term Care Partnership training course.

Long-Term Care (LTC)

• Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling LTC insurance products in South Carolina, producers must complete an initial 8-hour LTC training course.

• Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the initial 8-hour training requirement, LTC producers must complete 4 hours of LTC training every 24 months from the initial 8 hour course completion date.

Annuity Training Requirement

• *Effective September 25, 2011:  All producers currently licensed to sell, solicit, and negotiate annuity products must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours by March 25, 2012.  All producers licensed on or after September 25, 2011 must complete this training prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating such products.  *Nonresidents who satisfy the training requirements of another state that are similar to South Carolina's law will be deemed compliant for South Carolina's requirement.  

The license term is the last day of the licensee's birth month, by 5pm eastern, every odd-or-even year based on the year the licensee was born.

The deadline for biennially complying with continuing education and license renewal is the last day of the producer’s month of birth. Producers born in an odd numbered year must comply by the last day of the birth month in an odd numbered year. Producers born in an even numbered year must comply by the last day of the birth month in an even numbered year.

A course may not be repeated within 2 calendar years of the original completion date.

Up to 18 CE hours in excess of the CE compliance period may be carried over and applied to the next compliance period; Ethics hours will not carryover.

Effective May 27, 2022, producers may now apply for CE exemption if you are 65 years of age or older AND have 25 or more years of licensure. The online application is available on the South Carolina DOI website on the CE page.
